The town of Larrabetzu celebrated on April the 6th the VII edition of the "Txorierriko Txakolinaren Eguna", one of the areas of Biscay with a notorius importance within the production of txakoli (local white wine), where are registered 22 producers inscribed in the Denomination of Origin "Bizkaiko Txakolina".

Between other attractions, in the fair it was possible to attend the roast and later degustation of 32 lambs guaranteed by the Eusko Label Foundation at the expense of the chef Karlos Ibarrondo. Besides, the 11 wineries of the Txorierri who took part offered the attendees near 1.100 liters of txakoli to taste. The wine-makers that were present at the fair were the following ones: Txakoli Sasines, Larrabetzuko Torre Txakolina, Sasikoetxe, Gorka Izagirre, Abaroko Txakolina, Txakoli Arkotxes, Basalbeitiko Txakolina, Aitabitxi Txakolina, Txakoli Ayarza, Erdikoetxe Txakolina and Magalarte Txakolina.

The act started with the verses of the local verse singers Angkel Mari Peñagarikano and Miren Amuriza who gave the step to the toast presented by the journalist Josu Loroño. The txakoli of the Winery Aitabitxi was selected for the toast, which was made by the writer Toti Martinez de Lezea and the players of the Athletic Club Bilbao football team Gorka Iraizoz and Tiko. After the brindis, Andoni Ojanguren (owner of the winery Erdikoetxe Txakolina) won the prize of 200€ gave by the local authorities to the best stand of the fair.

There were not absent in the Txakolinaren Eguna diverse producers of the agricultural world of Biscay who offered to the people gathered in Larrabetzu cheese of sheep and goat, bread, Basque cake, honey, vegetable, fruit, pork products, pâtés, deer products, anchovies and tuna in conserve.

The goal of the fair was to thank the efforts made by the txakoli producers of the Txorierri to elaborate a first leve winel and make the name of the region well-known within all the corners of the Basque Country.  pics
